Whether you’re finding your first banjo or chasing a heavier tone, we make sure you walk out ready to play. We strive to uplift our community’s musicians and help them meet their goals by providing supplies, lessons, sound services, and repair close to home. The Team Behind The Gnarled String Music Shoppe
Music Man
Co-Owner and resident music instructor of The Gnarled String Music Shoppe, Nic has been playing guitar and bass for more than 20 years. He currently plays bass for local band Season of the Witch and spends a lot of his time jamming by himself or with local musicians. He even played bass in a super band for the High Knob Festival in 2026.
When he’s not playing music, he can often be found running sound for venues and events. Among his many sound jobs, he ran sound for Lincoln Road’s Summer Renaissance Faire, which featured live music, in 2024. Nic loves sharing his passion for music, and passing on his knowledge might be his favorite thing to do. So book a lesson today and learn from the Music Man himself!
Spreadsheet Lady
Co-Owner of the Gnarled String Music Shoppe, Jenn spends her time crunching numbers and designing ads. While she doesn’t currently play an instrument, she has in the past played piano, violin, saxophone, guitar, and bass. She remembers how to play exactly none of them.
What she lacks in musical knowledge, she makes up for in artistic talent. The Gnarled String’s logo, website, and advertising materials are all designed and implemented by Jenn. She’d love to sell her own designs one day, but for now she’s dedicated to creating magical pieces for her shop.
Jenn’s other duties include accounting, supply management, compliance, IT, and a mountain of other administrative duties, but who wants to hear about that?
